WILL DELTA-8 OR THCa FAIL A DRUG TEST?
Yes. Almost certainly, and it doesn't matter that it's hemp.
If you're tested for work, probation, custody, the military, sport or a professional licence, don't buy anything on this site. Not the gummies, not the lowest dose, not the CBD. We sell this stuff and we're telling you to walk away.
We get asked this more than any other question, and most of the answers online are written to sell you something. So here's ours, which costs us orders every month.
Why hemp doesn't help you
A standard urine screen doesn't look for THC. It looks for THC-COOH — the compound your liver produces after processing THC. Delta-8, delta-9, delta-10, HHC and THCa all end up as the same metabolite.
The test is an immunoassay. It's checking whether a molecule fits a shape, and it can't tell where that molecule came from. A federally compliant hemp preroll and an ounce from a dispensary look identical to it.
Farm Bill legality is a question about the plant. The test is a question about your liver. Those are unrelated, and conflating them is how people lose jobs.
How long it hangs around
THC metabolites are fat-soluble. They get stored and released slowly, which is why the window is so much wider than for alcohol.
| Urine — single use | 3 to 5 days |
| Urine — daily use | 30 days, sometimes longer |
| Blood | 1 to 2 days |
| Saliva | Up to 3 days |
| Hair | Up to 90 days |
Treat those as ranges, not promises. Body fat, dose, potency, frequency, hydration and the cutoff your employer uses all move the number. Somebody with a 30% body fat percentage who ate a 100 mg gummy every night for a month is in a completely different position from somebody who had one 10 mg piece at a wedding.
The questions people actually ask us
"It's only 10 mg. Surely that's fine?"
A 10 mg gummy is a real dose of THC. The screen has a cutoff — commonly 50 ng/mL — and a single low dose can land under it after a few days. Can. Not will. If the consequence of being wrong is your job, that's a bad bet at any odds.
"What about CBD?"
Full-spectrum CBD contains trace THC by definition, and there are documented positives from heavy daily use. Broad-spectrum and isolate are lower risk. Not zero — label accuracy across this industry is poor, and a product that says 0.0% doesn't always test that way. We publish COAs for exactly this reason, and we'd still tell a tested person not to risk it.
"Can I flush it out?"
No. Water dilutes a sample, which labs check for and flag, and a flagged sample is often treated as a failure. The detox drinks sold in smoke shops don't remove metabolites from fat. Time does. That's the whole list.
"Can I explain it was legal hemp?"
You can try. Most employers' policies are written around a positive result, not its origin, and a confirmation GC/MS test identifies THC-COOH without caring which isomer produced it. Some people have had success with an explanation and a receipt. Plenty haven't. Don't plan around it.
Who should not order from us
- Anyone on random workplace testing — transport, healthcare, energy, construction, federal contracting
- Anyone on probation, parole, or in a diversion program
- Active military and anyone holding a security clearance
- Athletes under NCAA, USADA or league testing
- Anyone in a custody dispute
- Anyone whose professional licence carries a testing condition — nursing, aviation, law in some states
- Anyone about to start a new job. Pre-employment screening is the most common way this goes wrong.
If you're on that list and you've already ordered, reply to your confirmation email before you open the package and we'll take it back. Unopened, and we'll cover the postage on this one — normally a return refunds the purchase price and we keep the shipping we paid, but not for someone who'd lose a job over it. We'd rather have the return than the story.
What we're not going to tell you
We're not going to tell you delta-8 is "less detectable," that THCa doesn't register because it's non-intoxicating raw, or that our products are somehow different. THCa converts to delta-9 the moment you light it — that's the entire point of smoking it — and it counts toward total THC in every lab we use.
Some retailers imply otherwise. Read that as a signal about the retailer.
Half a 10 mg gummy. Wait two hours before you decide it isn't working — that wait is the whole skill, and going in twice is how people have a bad night.
